hello & welcome
Trauma, emotional pain and disappointments, feelings of loss, loneliness or isolation, lack of identity or direction, overwhelm, the need for understanding and a desire for unconditional support are common, human experiences. As individuals, each of us have or will likely experience multiple stressors in our lifetimes that contribute to some of these needs and conditions. Even then, the joy in living full, happy and purposeful lives is still in reach.
It’s not where we’ve been or what we’ve gone through, but it’s the destination we choose for the journey.
The actions we take to get to our desired circumstances are crucial in recovery and new beginnings. Because we are not super-humans, the opportunity to talk through challenging life events, ideas, worries and goals, and get feedback from someone who fully listens, to understand our hearts, may be just what is needed to experience clarity, healing, one’s identity and purpose again.
It is not uncommon to feel hesitant or have doubts about uncovering one’s vulnerability by sharing distressing thoughts, feelings and challenges. It can be scary to come out from a wall of personal darkness, confusion and pain that seems to provide some sense of safety. And…it can be rewarding to discover who you were really meant to be, the strengths you actually possess, your ability to get back on track in life, to find your passion and where it was meant to lead you, and to recognize the ways in which life’s challenges have strengthened your voice, sharpened your abilities and made you a powerful force with something to offer the world.
If the idea of “therapy,” or “talking to someone,” for support seems too painful, intrusive, embarrassing or shaming for you, I encourage you today to challenge your doubts and fears. Whether your goal is personal or relational growth, rising above your past, releasing self-doubt and emotional pain, disabling grief or, parents, improving the emotional and social wellbeing of your youth, you just might find therapy to stand up to its potential—to be enlightening, empowering, healing, hope-building, life-changing…an ‘enkindling’ experience!
